Hayward Tri-City Alumnae Chapter History

In the spring of 1989, several members of the sorority who resided in the Hayward-Tri-City area began discussions on chartering a chapter in their area. At that time, only the local African American churches provided public service and addressed the specific needs of the African American community. The desire and need to serve the community was the beginning of the Hayward-Tri-City Alumnae chapter.

Armed with a commitment and determination to keep the Founders' vision alive, Hayward Tri-City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was chartered on March 2, 1990, to serve the cities of Southern Alameda County.

The twenty charter members were:

  • Phyllis Adams
  • Ineda Adesanya
  • Gwendolyn Bell
  • Leona Bowles
  • Carla Brown-Jones
  • Jacquelyn Cato
  • Lynnette Daniels
  • Karen Evans
  • Patricia Franklin
  • Chalon Green
  • Pamela Jackson
  • Marian Langford
  • Helyn Manning-Harold
  • Ollie Milligan
  • Claudia Nash-Simmons
  • Yvette Russell
  • Dorothy Staples
  • Joyce Sturdivant
  • Faye West-Lockett
  • Roianne Wilrights

Since that time, our chapter has been involved in numerous community projects guided by the sorority’s Five Point Program.
