Committees
Public Relations/Journalist – Antoinette Warren-Williams: The Public Relations Committee is responsible for the chapter’s internal and external communications. This committee provides support for chapter functions by providing marketing plans and materials for all external events. In addition, the PR Committee regularly publishes a newsletter detailing both community and sorority news.
Arts and Letters – Tonie Flores
- The Arts and Letters Committee serves as an advocate for arts that chronicle the African American experience. The chapter has supported several cultural arts activities including The Lion King, The Color Purple and several productions presented by the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre.
Membership – Pamela Covington
- The Membership Committee serves the chapter through planning and initiating new membership programs, as well as providing reclamation activities for inactive Sorors.
Social Action – Paula Ambrose and Pansy Taft-Butkowski
- The Social Action Committee is responsible for implementing the sorority’s National social action initiative within our community. Locally, this committee participates and organizes various activities including voter education and registration, financial planning seminars and heath and wellness fairs.
Scholarship – Danielle Fluker
- The Scholarship Committee is responsible for seeking qualified candidates to receive scholarship awards from the chapter. This committee actively searches for deserving students via live presentations at schools throughout the Bay Area, written solicitations and a viable application process.
Information & Technology – Chawn Howard
- The Technology Committee provides technology services within the Hayward-Tri-City chapter, most specifically the chapter’s web page. This committee also seeks to provide technology training in software programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ways and Means – Makedah Shartukar and Yvonne Richardson
- The Ways and Means Committee provides the Hayward-Tri-City chapter with guidance for fundraising efforts and other revenue generating activities. Our signature event is Music on the Green, the chapter’s annual scholarship fundraiser. Music on the Green provides an opportunity for fellowship and includes food, a silent auction and live music performed by local artist.
Program Planning and Development – April Ellison
- The Program Planning and Development Committee is responsible for initiating, planning and executing the chapter’s educational, international and community programs. In support of the Sorority’s emphasis on Educational Development, this committee focuses its efforts on the EMBODI program for young men. In addition, the committee coordinates support of Abode Services and the Mother of Peace Orphanage in Zimbabwe.
Finance – Shirley Sexton
- The Finance Committee serves to ensure fiscal responsibility of the chapter, provide avenues for investment and expansion and implement programs and training in support of the Sorority’s emphasis on Economic Development.
Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy - Karen DeFrantz and Sylvia Montgomery
- Delta Academy provides an opportunity for local Delta chapters to enrich and enhance the education of teen aged girls. A primary goal of the program is to prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century. Specifically, we augment their scholarship in math, science, and technology, their opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership through service learning, and their sisterhood, defined as the cultivation and maintenance of relationships.
